Skin as a Gateway to the Nervous System.
During the last 7 years of Wildcare, I have come to understand my skin as a gateway to the nervous system; that what enters AND what leaves the gates all have a profound impact on the terrain (our skin).
We can all visibly attest to how physical modalities of touch therapy (think massage, esthetics, & topicals) can support the skin, and how loving touch ripples to directly impact the nervous system. But what about the role of our own energetics/emotions during the times we don’t get or do bodywork -or- when $50+ for skincare or $100+ for massages/facials aren’t financially options?
Nobel prize winning physicist, Carlos Rubbia discovered that for every 1 part of matter, there are 1,000,000,000 parts of energy that created it. So why is the majority of skin health solely fixed on tending to the tangible matter rather than the unseen energy?
If energy is an information superhighway, then starting there BEFORE touch is the biggest way to influence our own tangible matter, our skin. Here are a few ways I’m energetically practicing good flow; nurturing myself 1st, & letting my skin reflect that 2nd.
• Take 15 minutes a day to do absolutely nothing but breathe.
• Talk through feelings; Name them, feel them, structure the support of movement through them. Don’t ignore the tiny thoughts if they come regularly.
• Before a skincare routine, do a body scan. How are you today? What comes up for you? What do you want to create?
• Restructure boundaries that support feelings of safety, breath, and fullness.
• Consider working with flower/land/stone essences and/or homeopathy. The right remedy can create enormous shifts.
• Eat slowly.
• Drink water, which seems physical, but wow, a huge energy and mood mover.
Just because I’m practicing in these ways, doesn’t mean they’re your right ways. Listen to your voice 1st. Explore & engage how you see fit. I don’t feel rigid consistency is key, but I do feel commitment leads to creation. Happy skin begins as a feeling so go with the flow!
Big love,
Cort
